Stakeholder Consultation on Urban Aquifer Management & Water Governance in Kerala

The prime importance towards conduction of a comprehensive Stakeholder Consultations Workshop regarding Urban Aquifer Management and Water Governance in Kerala is mainly because urbanization continues to expand at an unprecedented rate in Kerala state wherein it has become an imperative need, that we have to adopt sustainable practices in managing our vital water resources effectively and efficiently.

What is Aquifer Management ?

Aquifer management is the process of planning, implementing, and monitoring activities to sustainably manage and protect groundwater resources contained in aquifers. This involves ensuring the long-term availability and quality of groundwater for various uses, such as drinking water, agriculture, industry, and ecosystem support.

Aquifer management is critical to maintaining the balance between water use and natural replenishment, ensuring long-term availability and quality of groundwater resources. It plays a fundamental role in sustaining ecosystems, supporting economic activities, protecting infrastructure, and enhancing resilience to climate change. Without effective management, the negative impacts on water availability, quality, ecosystems, and human activities can be profound and far-reaching.
